CTRL+C Problem Revisited, Solved
UPDATE: I’ve fixed this problem, scroll down to see how.
The other day I lamented that my version of Microsoft Word has recently lost the ability to cut using Ctrl+C. Instead I get the ever popular, always useful, รก symbol. Today I noticed that Word in fact confirms that Ctrl+C no longer controls the Copy function:

For no discernible reason, Copy is now controlled by the Control+Insert (or Ctrl+Insert) keyboard combination. Why did this change? How do I change it back? This is an unpleasantness.
My brief efforts to Google an answer to this problem were unproductive. The closest thing I could find is a site that explains how to use the Insert key to control the Paste command (rather than Ctrl+V). Close, but no help.
Any ideas?
UPDATE:
Here’s how to fix it. First, go to Tools and choose Customize:

Second, choose Keyboard… (at the bottom):

Finally, for category select Edit, for Commands select EditCopy (or whatever keyboard shortcut is screwed up) and then place a cursor in the “Press new shortcut key” space and then type the command you want to use for the Copy command (in my case Ctrl +C):

That should do it.

What what what? I hope this is a quirk of your OS and not the Way of the Future, as MS Word is more or less indispensible in my line of work. I have Word 2002 and it lets me use Ctrl-C. This web page suggests that it could be either one in Word 2002 or Word 2003; the MS knowledge base is not a bad resource if you have the patience for more Web searching.

I think it’s just something wrong with my particular version. It changed suddenly and without warning. I didn’t update anything or upgrade anything. Something’s just amiss.

I have the same problem – out of nowhere like the first person – and had gone into keyboard and followed the procedure WITH NO LUCK. I just tried again, following instructions to the “T”, but still NO LUCK! If I block a word and press ControlC, the word is deleted and a “c” remains. ControlV still pastes beautifully. Any more ideas please?

I have, unsuccessfully, followed the above advise, to the “T”. Control V works perfectly, Control C deletes the blocked text and replaces it with a “c”. Any more ideas please?

Although I’m using MS Office 2007 it also worked there! Thanks a million!!! I’ve been trying to fix it for 2 hours but you were the only one suggesting the right solution!
Thanks again

Thanks for your help.
This problem occurred for me when I wrote a macro in Word and accidentally assigned Ctrl + C as a keyboard shortcut to it.
Your fix solved it, thanks for taking the time to put it online.

I have stumbled upon this problem today, and while your solution works, I figured out what CAUSES the problem in the first place.
Apparently when you change the default input language (right click on the language bar -> Settings) to something other than English, MS Office automatically remaps all the shortcuts.
While I prefer to keep the default on English anyway, my folks prefer Russian and it’s kind of a pain in the ass that Word does this.
