the adams/jefferson thing is one of the most awesomely fascinating things in american history. especially since they both died on the fourth of july. it’s true, according to the david mccullough bio. adams sort of took a final jab at his friend that his greatest regret was that he didn’t outlive him. read the bio!

it’s funny that john adam’s last words were “thomas jefferson survives” when they both died on the same day.

Some of those are apocryphal, but fun nonetheless.

Additionally, there’s no good reason for it to be a slideshow… the whole thing is kind of contorted.

“thomas jefferson still survives”
i wonder if they were in a race/bet to see who would die last and adams was lamenting that we wasn’t going to be able to win.
also excuse the extraneous apostrophe in the above comment. i hope “no-one” caught that mistake.

wikipedia states apparently jefferson died a few hours before adams, but adams didn’t know so. then again, it’s wikipedia.
