DC Taxi Scabs

Due to today’s 24 hour strike, there were a lot fewer cabs lined up in front of Union Station than usual this morning, but there were still a few scabs out there:

the “SCABS” written directly on the picture is a nice touch. how do you know these are scabs and not just part of the scant few cabs not taking part in the coup?

  2. DoorFrame Says:

Well, there really isn’t any such thing as a scab in this particular situation, since there is no cab driver union. There are several different cab driver organizations in DC and I don’t think they were all behind the strike and none of them represent all of the drivers.

The strike is entirely voluntary and undertaken on a case by case basis. Anybody working today simply decided they didn’t agree with the points being made by those who supported a strike. The difference between these people and scabs during an actual union strike is subtle, I guess.
