My brother and I LOVE appian way pizza! It was the brand our mom would always buy for us. I buy it in cases online cuz the stores here dont carry it anymore. They do have the chef boyardee kits sometimes and those are good, but the appian way is awesome. It really is better than the pic on the box makes it look!
Appian Way can still be found in some supermarkets. Crosby Markets in Massachusetts carry it. Also sometimes if you ask the grocery manager at your local store they can order it. Stop and shop ordered it many times for me.
My mom made these pizzas for our family of 7 back in the early 70’s because they were inexpensive and everyone loved them. I have been getting them online, first from Dial Corp then Hometownfavorites.com for the last 15 years. Now my daughter is hooked on them, too! We use cheddar cheease and Hormel pepperoni, just like Mom used to make! :)
We moved to San Antonio and cannot find Appian Way
Last month we found it at WINCO stores in Calif.Bought 6 boxes.
Where can we find it here?
Can we purchase from Pinnacle Foods??
T
Appian Way is good stuff! I’d take it over any chain, and definitely any frozen pizza out there. Expensive?- It’s around a buck and a quarter a box. Throw on some mozz, and you got a 3 buck, fun to make pizza!
Sheesh, some ppl are hard to please. Now if I could only find the stuff…
Appian way is the best boxed pizza mix around, the crust is flavorful and the sauce is cooked enough as to not give you acid indigestion like cheap pizzas. Toss out the cheese in the box and add your favorite toppings and cheese and you will get the best home baked pizza ever, better than most pizzerias in my book, just my opinion!
Please list the stores that sell Appian Way in Michigan….it’s the one, the only, the best and has been for 52 years when Mom used to make it every Friday night. Nothin’ compares!
I am an absolute lover and eater of appian way pizza’s. Even have pizza parties with it. The only home made pizza I love. I saw it in Columbus, Ohio at Meijer, but so far they are not stocking it anymore. I will keep looking. We have to have it. We only have one box left. Aaah!
The price is the same either way. Hometown Favorites is kind of a fun site to check out, though. I think that the shipping cost is absolutely ridiculous, but I guess I can’t complain too much, since I’ve been paying it for a while. They haven’t sold Appian Way in Arizona for many years.
I went to Kroger’s in search of either Appian Way or Chef Boyradee pizza kits. I couldn’t find either I asked a stockboy and he had never heard of either one! I finally found it buried in the isle by the vegtables and alas no Appian Way just The Chef.
I’ve been racking my brains to remember the name. It had a seasoning (in the sauce, or was it a packet) that no other pizza has (at least not as strong) that I really miss.
I have eaten Appian Way Pizza for 40 some years and can’t find it in the stores here anymore. It is the best homemade pizza ever, great crust and yes i wish i could buy there sauce separately. Where can I order it?
I got a real chuckle out of reading this thread. As a kid in the 60’s and 70’s boxed pizza mixes were a treat to have on an occasional Saturday night. Believe it or not, delivered pizza did not exist back then. You wanted pizza, you either went to a sit-down pizza place and ate it there (or got it as take out) or you took one of the boxed mixes down from the cupboard. The national chains we know today did not exist back in the 50’s/60’s.
Our local King Soopers (part of Kroger now) still sells the Chef Boy Ar Dee pizza ‘kits” but I just now pick up a package of dry pizza crust to mix up and some pizza sauce plus whatever toppings I like. Cheaper than even the Appian Way mixes.
In the 1980’s Appian Way had a “crsip crust” style pizza mix that I like better than the regular. The box had was brown colored instead of red. I also remember when Appian Way used to list “tuna” as an topping suggestion on their box!
I think the pizza you are trying to remember was made by Kraft. It was a boxed pizza that came with a little packet of dried herb seasonings that you sprinkled over the pizza before baking. No longer sold in the U.S., Kraft Canada still sells it. If you go over to the forums at Roadfood.com (google is your friend) you can find some discussion of it including links to a Canada website that you can order it from.
I just got back from Northern California and Appian Way pizza is sold at Winco. I am also trying to find it in Southern California. I will try a couple of
the websites all of you have mentioned.
I also grew up with this Pizza.
APPIAN WAY IS THE BEST PIZZA EVER! SADLY WE CAN NOT FIND IT IN OUR AREA ANYWHERE…PLEASE CARRY YOUR PRODUCT IN SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN, AND NORTHWEST OHIO- PLEASE!!!!
Please tell me where I can find this pizza in
Columbus, OH. I ate this wonderful pizza from when I was 8 yrs old until now and i am 64. Meijers quit carrying it and I can’t find it. Help
Michelle and Teri, I posted a link above at comment #23 where you can order it. Their minimum order is $20, so at least 8 boxes. As it says, the shipping is ridiculous, but at least I can still make ‘em for less than a delivery place! :) Maybe being located closer to the seller, you won’t have as high a shipping cost.
Appian way rules!!!!!! Great stories!! When I was a kid we would always use it to make our pizzas!!!! They don’t carry it here and a few years ago I found it on a website called Looneystuff.com and I’ve been ordering it ever since!!!!!!!
I buy it at Sack and Save in Chillicothe Ohio. It’s a discount grocer on main street. They are in the same chain as Community Markets but I don’t know if they carry it as well. Hopefully there are Sack and Saves in Columbus but if not you can take a quick ride south and come get some.
My mom used to make Appian Way pizza just for me when I was a kid. My dad claimed to detest Italian food, so we never had pizza or spaghetti for supper. My mom didn’t even top it with mozzerella, she would just tear up a slice or two of American cheese and plop the pieces around on top of the sauce. (I can hear you retchin’, that’s rude.) If you were impatient, and bit into the hot cheese too soon, it would drape down your lower lip and burn the crap outta you.
If it weren’t for Appian Way pizza and grilled cheese sandwiches, I woulda starved to death, because I wouldn’t eat meat. That gristly hamburger we were expected to eat back then made me a vegetarian for life.
Meijers in Columbus, OH used to sell, but despite my begging to the Home Office they say they carry what sells the best. BOOOO. Of course Meijers has taken 45% of what they used to sell, off the shelf. If anyone can help me find it in Columbus I would greatly appreciate it. Have been eating it for 55 yrs and it is the best.
*Order it online and they will ship right to your house. Love it! Bought a case (12bx/case) for $32.47 shipping included in that price at
BuyTheCase.net
That equals $2.70 per box. Is that worth it? Oh, yea!!
My parents recently bought a case and two weeks ago I had a party with this pizza mix and people loved it! Especially when we used a pizza stone. The dough rolled out very thick and solid.
I grew up on this and even my own children won’t eat other brands as they do with appian way!
My Unlce invented this back in I think 1948, then sold the rights. It was nice to hear such great reviews from so many different people from so many different areas of the states. Thanks, it brought back some nice memories.
I don’t get it, the boxed appian way is on our grocery shelves, but in the 60’s they had their own line of frozen pizza’s and i thought i saw it on the food network program,Unwrapped, retro foods. But now i cannot seem to find that show or any retro food suppliers that carry the frozen ones.
