Somewhere non-union? As the blog post you linked to notes, non-union grocery stores seem to be happier places, for whatever reason. Possibly because the employees are treated like human beings. I know you have issues with Trader Joes’ offerings, but it really is a happy place to shop, even when it’s packed to the gills and hard to park. The employees are just so damn happy, it makes everyone else happy. And I bet you could learn to love their food — they do have bad-for-you instant crap, you know.
I think when the grocery strike here happened back in 2003 (?), there was an article on shopping at funny little non-union places like “ethnic” grocery stores. You could just get to love Chinese noodles and fish.
Though I have to say, they have the most generic and least interesting websites ever. Some of the grocery items they carry include condiments. Imagine that!

As far as I know, the only supermarkets within biking range of my current home are Safeways. I’ll be shopping at CVS and 7-Eleven.

I don’t know exactly where you live. Is it near school? There’s a Food USA on New Jersey and E. And a Randolph-Sheppard on G between 4th and 5th.
Also, you could be a scab. Do you really mind being a scab?

I’ve never heard of either of those places.
Food USA’s address appears to be inside the Realtors building, which I’m fairly certain does not house a supermarket (it does, however, house the Billy Goat Tavern, which is a spinoff from a Chicago bar/restaurant that the Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger SNL skit was based on (scroll down a little).
Randolph Shepard seems to be a government program, not a food salesman.

That place does exist, but is a corner store. At least, that’s what it looks like from the outside, I’ve never gone in.
