DC Advertising
One of the unique things about DC is that a lot of the local advertising is geared towards products and services that you never see advertised in other parts of the country. Presumably these types of ads are geared towards government and military purchasers who have different needs than your average startup. I, for example, am unlikely to require any sort of services geared towards naval fleet optimization… but apparently some people do:
I sincerely hope that the people who need to purchase such services are already well aware of any valid vendors and aren’t simply making decisions based on who has the most convincing subway ad along their route to work.

i’ve noticed ads in national magazines that don’t really advertise services or products to be purchased, but just let you know that this brand name is behind a big government project. I wonder if Siemens is doing the same thing.

I’ve often wondered about this, too. Perhaps it’s a way to keep the company’s names in the consciousness of the politically aware audience on the DC subway? But worryingly, the ads do appear more frequently at the Pentagon Metro stops, implying that they really are aimed at the military.
