Clean-Cut

Can women be “clean-cut,” or only men?

  1. The Rodenator Says:

I always thought clean cut was derived from one’s hair and beard. I thought it was more the way that someone kept him or hereself than the feature’s that he or she was born with. I would usually use it to describe men, but could also use it for a woman who kept her appearance neat.

My thoughts are similar to Rodenator. Have I been mistaken all this time?

It just occurred to me that I’ve only ever used it in reference to men, and it seems to make more sense that way from a short hair, etymological point of view
