Pictures of Famous People Wearing Top Hats
The top has played an important role in modern history. Without top hats, we wouldn’t have had the Civil War, World War II or Guns n’ Roses. Since the top hat’s impact on important human events is often overlooked and underestimated, here’s a collection of pictures of famous people wearing top hats:
Abraham Lincoln:

Madonna:

Fred Astaire:

Sienna Miller:

Gene Wilder:

Mark Twain:

Marilyn Manson:

Mary Kate Olsen:

Johnny Depp:

Pete Doherty:

Brigham Young:

Slash:

Stevie Nicks:

Britney Spears:

Winston Churchill:

And now, one wild card. An elusive picture showing both Abraham Lincoln AND Winston Churchill where NEITHER are wearing top hats. Could this insult to nature be why we lost the Korean War? I think it’s possible:

By the way, did you notice that Britney Spears and Winston Churchill are in almost the same pose in their top hat pictures? Seems intriguing, doesn’t it?
UPDATE: I’ve added a few more famous people to our top hat collection:
Bob Dylan:
Daniel Day Lewis:

Harpo Marx:

Leonardo DiCaprio:

Marlene Dietrich:

Michael Jackson:
Peter Boyle:

Gillian Anderson:

Tom Petty:

Considering an Olsen, Britney and Sienna have all been seen in one, I’m surprised every girlie mall store isn’t selling them already, you know, to go with the furry Ugg boots and the pre-destroyed jeans.

You guys left out Serj Tankien. He wears a top hat almost all the time lol.

Even better, Churchill is flipping us the British version of the bird! (Or victory. But I thought the back of your hand was the insulting side.)

Either he’s doing it, or Britney’s doing it…

Ok, so I need to add a pictures of Harp Marx, Tom Petty, Marlene Dietrich. Anyone else?
I’m fairly confident in asserting that Serj Tankien doesn’t qualify as famous (I had to look up who he was). Though, in fairness, I’d probably qualify Pete Doherty that way as well.

Ooh, and Michael Jackson.

How about Marc Bolin from Thin Lizzy. It’s where Slash got the idea for his. Also, Dr. Demento wears one.
And there’s a second Gene Wilder role, in Young Frankenstein, with Peter Boyle, where they are both wearing top hats. There should be a couple of FDR pics around as well.
Oddly fascinating.

Oops. Marc Bolan (correct spelling) was in T-Rex. My Bad.

I can’t believe you left out Marlena Dietrich, but I guess you’re too young for that one. Very, very famous photo. I see someone on Farq got it, however.

Ha, and Scully, and Gang of New York.

And maybe Alice Cooper.

And technically, isn’t Lincoln wearing a stovepipe hat? Not totally clear on the difference, and it is called a type of top hat. Just throwing that out there to be a pain in the backside.
Don’t forget Uncle Sam.

I was trying to limit the list to real people. If we start using fictional people, we can add Mr. Peanut, Uncle Sam, The Penguin, the Monopoly Guy, Scrooge McDuck and others..

Marc Bolan!

More as I think of them:
Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins
Penn and Teller once used a top hat to drop thousands of roaches on David Letterman

We won Korea. Try again.
[.]
July 13th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
We won Korea? Uh, what about everything north of the 38th parallel? The best that we could call it is a draw, if not an outright loss.
[.]
July 14th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Outright loss might be harsh but humiliating retreat none the less. And considering there are still GI’s in there today over 50 years later, to counterbalance the threat North Korea presumably still poses, you’d be hard pushed to call it either a success or a victory. The Korean policy as a whole is a failure, whether or not you choose to acknowledge the war itself as a loss or just as a draw. Topshats or no tophats…
